Even the drive up to Arvenbüel is worth the trip. The road winds through a sheer rock face, with fine views of the Walensee.
From Arvenbüel we set off at an easy pace on broad paths and a modest gradient, settling into the day at altitude. The first summit, though, has to be earned: some 200 metres of climbing, almost straight up the fall line.
It is far from the highest point around us, but the view is still superb, and we enjoy it over a long break, weather permitting. Then we head back down into the lovely raised bog that shapes the landscape above Arvenbüel. Along the way we can take in a second small summit – or skip it, if we prefer.
A gentle descent brings us back to Arvenbüel, where we stop at the Restaurant Arvenbüel for a drink and a bite to eat.
