A demanding walk – but one that rewards the senses as generously as it tests the legs.

We start at Walenstadtberg, reached by bus from Walenstadt. Straight away the path climbs steeply through the fresh morning air to the Alp Tschingla, where we treat ourselves to a coffee (and perhaps a slice of cake). It makes a rewarding goal in itself for a family walk in the area.

Then comes a long stretch right at the foot of the Churfirsten, high above the Walensee. Again and again our eyes wander to the Glarus Alps, down to the lake or across to the distant Rhine valley. It is hard to describe how majestic this path feels.

Finally we tackle the 1,100-metre descent, where your knees will be grateful for poles. If we are in good time, we can take a dip in picturesque Quinten and stop for refreshments before the boat takes us to Murg and the train.
