From the Riemenstalden valley a gondola takes us up to Gitschen, where we set off. For now we leave the Lidernen hut to our left and head for the Schmalstöckli, passing it to the south. Here we enter a landscape of countless small hummocks, which make the area so captivating in winter.

The going is mostly level. After heavy snowfall it can still be hard work, but all the more rewarding as we move along almost in silence. Whether we can climb the Hüendersädel depends on conditions on the day.

If the snow allows, we take a slightly different route back. Otherwise we follow our own tracks and save our energy – which we can then restore over a stop at the Lidernen hut.
